Georges Gaudy
Georges Gaudy (, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode – 1940, Brussels) was a Belgian poster artist of Art Nouveau period, painter and engraver. Nothing is known of his artistic training, but the professional quality of his works suggests that he was not self-taught.
Gaudy was also a champion cyclist and won several awards, which likely explains why his first poster was designed for the Brussels Velodrome and so many of his subsequent works advertised bicycle and car manufacturers. He also designed a few posters for other companies and products, such as his previously unrecorded work for the reopening of a Belgian department store.
Gaudy has a unique style in which he juxtaposes dark and vivid flat colors both for outlining and for the background. Some of his works exhibit characteristics of Luminism.
He was active in Brussels and exhibited color drawings at the 1913 National Watercolourists Salon. Gaudy was also a member of the Société des Aquafortistes Belges and the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire de Bruxelles.
